We'll be seeing you at BEA... LitMinds is headed to New York for the Book Industry's Annual Meet-up

It's not a few short weeks to the book industry's largest U.S annual gathering, a.k.a. Book Expo America (BEA), May 31 - June 3, 2007.  Praveen, Lewis and Christin are attending as representatives of the LitMinds team.  Please let us know if you'll be attending -- we are planning a dinner/cocktails for friends and new acquaintances to meet.

Book Expo America

Here are the highlights of the panels and events that look good to us and which we're planning to attend:

Writer's Conference

  • May 30th: Writer's Digest Writer's Conference with Agent/Editor a two-hour "Pitch Slam."  This conference officially precedes the main event by a day and gives authors an opportunity to attend a few interesting seminars. The morning keynote is Jodi Picoult (Second Glance, My Sister's Keeper, Vanishing Acts, The Tenth Circle, Nineteen Minutes)
  • Participating in the Digital Revolution: on May 31 at Hotel ABA (American Booksellers Association), the Director of BookSense.com Len Vlahos discusses how phenomena like digitization of content, social networking, open source and distributed computing are affecting independent booksellers today, and how will they affect booksellers in the near future?
  • Alan's bookAlan Greenspan gives the BEA keynote on June 1, he'll be interviewed by his wife and NBC News Correspondent Andrea Mitchell presumably about his forthcoming book The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in the New World due out in September this year.  The former Federal Reserve Chairman received an $8.5 million advance for the book and movie rights -- priced at a hefty $35 for the hardcover we're wondering if there will be new insight worth the read.
  • Climate Change: The Environment and Book Publishing also on June 1 morning session -- A discussion about what all segments of book publishing can and should do to move to sustainability and reduce its environmental impact.  Will this result in an accelerated push for digital content and print-on-demand technologies to streamline distribution and minimize waste?  What innovative and environment-friendly materials are being used to produce books these days? Other opportunities to make it a greener world?
  • Technology companies will be making a big splash with several panels and workshops including Google Book Search, Microsoft Live, and Amazon 101 -- we'll be checking out their latest push to be platforms of choice for book search & sales.
  • The floor!  Publishers, publishers and more publishers.  Authors, authors, and more authors.  Books, books, and more books. (Ok, you get the point -- a lot of new titles to check out in the various exhibitors' hall -- we'll be spending a good amount of time there too and plan to take some photos).

Are you going?  Remember to let us know so we can include you in our dinner/cocktail meetup. Looking forward to seeing lots of you in New York in a few weeks!
